Modernizing Spokane's Old Industrial District

SPOKANE VALLEY, WA—In phase two of a four phase project aimed at modernizing the old industrial district, Larry H. Miller Downtown Spokane will soon celebrate the grand re-opening of Larry H. Miller Downtown Toyota. The endeavor brought together a team consisting of Layton Construction Company based out of Salt Lake City, UT; John Mahoney Architect, LLC of Tempe, AZ; and Whipple Consulting Engineers of Spokane Valley.

Heading up the engineering for the redesign is Ray Kimball, Project Manager with Whipple Consulting Engineers.

“Rebuilding and investing in downtown Spokane has been a great project,” Kimball said of the reconstruction. “It’s one of the oldest parts of the city- and in an older area, you never know what you’re going to dig up.”

WCE has taken on the Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture for the entire downtown campus- a feat that becomes exponentially more impressive when you learn the sewer system in that area was constructed in the 1890’s. But Kimball says the flexibility of the contractor and cooperation of the City of Spokane has made this a relatively smooth job.

“It’s also been great to work with the architect. We’re all very excited about helping to modernize the Downtown campus for Larry H. Miller,” stated Kimball.

The next phase of the project will be to repurpose the old Toyota building site to become the new Larry H. Miller Downtown Honda building.

Larry H. Miller Downtown Toyota Spokane originally opened their doors in March 2011. The dealership reopened on September 12th, 2016.
